Hanna opens Kan. Stroke Play with 68
NEWTON, KS. (June 28, 2013) -- An overnight rain and wind storm that caused a 45 minute delay in the opening round of the 2013 Railer, Kansas Stroke Play Championship at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton. When play began, players took advantage of pleasant temperatures and low winds and scored well. Future KU golfer and current KGA Junior Amateur champion Chase Hanna leads after an opening round 4-under par 68. Wichita junior golfer Sam Stevens is one shot back at 3-under par 69. Current KU golfer David Auer sits at 2-under par 70 after round one. In the Senior Division, defending champion Steve Newman of Wichita leads after a 3-under par 69. Newman is not unfamiliar with success in KGA events after winning the Mid-Amateur in early May and the Senior Amateur last summer. Started in 2011 and held annually at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, the 2013 Railer will be held June 28-30, 2013. The 54-hole stroke play championship is open to any amateur golfer. Round two will begin at 7:30 am on Saturday, June 29th.
