Nebraska Senior: Sajevic leads early
FREMONT, Neb. (June 17, 2013) -- John Sajevic matched par on his home course Monday putting him two shots clear of a trio of players at 73. Included in that group are defending champion Steve Samuelson of Fremont; last year's Senior Match Play Runner-Up Jay Muller of Bennington and Omaha's David Evans. Three more players sit at 74 including past champions John Haney of Lincoln (2005) and David Clouse of Friend (2010). Sajevic won the tournament in 2008.
The 36-hole championship concludes with a final round Tuesday at the Fremont Golf Club. In divisional play Sajevic holds the lead in the 50-57 age group; Bert Newell of Lincoln and Guy Ingles of Omaha share honors in the 58-64 group; Haney heads the 65 and older division along with Tom Olson of Omaha. Newell and Olson are eligible for age divisional prizes only since they are competing from a separate set of tees.
