1978, was designed to offer the world's
amateur golfers the opportunity to face
challenge of a superb golf course in an
atmosphere reflecting the highest ideal of
amateur athletics, with fierce competition

field consists of 78 contestants, half from
college level and half from mid-amateurs.
Sigel, a winner on the senior tour, has
quoted as saying that the Cardinal Am is
of the finest amateur tournaments in the
country and one which he wishes he had
during his amateur career.
The Cardinal Amateur established a
fund in 1983 to which is funded a
$1,500 scholarship each year to be
through the recipients four-year
college career. This fund, the Thomas G.
O'Briant Scholarship Fund, has provided
financial assistance to 22 young people
through four years of college.
