Fresno leads at WAC Championship
HENDERSON, Nev. (May 2, 2011) -- Fresno State holds a slim one-stroke lead over three-time defending champion New Mexico State after the first round of the Club Glove WAC Men's Golf Championship at the 7,313-yard, par-72 Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nev.
Idaho's Damian Telles carded the best score of the day with a 6-under par 66 to lead by two strokes. Fresno State had two players in the top three as Bryan Hogan shot a 68 while Brian Sunker had a 70. Also shooting under par with 71's were defending WAC champion Tim Madigan of New Mexico State and Mark Hubbard of San Jose State.
Fresno State shot an even-par 288 on the day followed by New Mexico State at 289 (+1). San Jose State finished at 5-over par and is in third place with a 293. Louisiana Tech is in fourth with 295 (+7), Idaho is in fifth with 298 (+10) and in sixth is Nevada at 299 (+11). Utah State is seventh with a
301 (+13) followed by Hawai'i (308, +20) and Boise State (309, +21).
The three-day tournament continues on Tuesday with second-round tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m.
