SAVANNAH, Ga. (Nov. 14, 2014) — Greg Scurlock and Charlie Wall, Sr., both of Augusta, fired a 6-under-par 65 in the final round to win the Georgia Senior Four-Ball Championship by four strokes. The winning score of 14-under-par 199 surpassed the final score of the runner-ups from Macon who led after rounds one and two, Phil Hardin and Gay McMichael (10-under-par 203).
The 23rd playing of this senior competition took place at both Wilmington Island Club and Savannah Quarters Country Club, November 12-14.
Scurlock and Wall posted rounds of 67 in each of the first two rounds at Wilmington Island Club, where the Championship flight competed on its 6,407 yard, par 71 track. Beginning the final round looking for a wire-to-wire win, Hardin and McMichael had a two stroke advantage, but a 1-over-par 72 over the final 18 holes opened the door for Scurlock and Wall.
Finishing third in the Championship flight were Bill Leonard of Dallas and Don Marsh of Johns Creek at 9-under-par 204 (68-69-67). Jack Kearney and John Landis, both of Peachtree City, finished fourth at 8-under-par 205 (67-66-72). Fifth-place went to Mel Mendenhall of Marietta and Larry Vaughan of Greensboro at 6-under-par 207 (69-71-67). Kent Blevins and John Foster, both of Woodstock, recorded a 4-under-par 209 (68-71-70) to finish sixth, while Thomas Cornelia of Greensboro and Greg Cottrell of Powder Springs posted a 3-under-par 210 (70-71-69) good for seventh.
Three twosomes tied for eighth at 1-under-par 212 - Frank Paris III of Savannah and James Whitlock of Lilburn (72-70-70); Ken Anders, Jr., and Brett Kieffer, both of Thomasville, (71-68-73); and Martin Ball and Ladell Norton, both of Rome, (69-68-75).
In the Super Senior division for those 65 and older competitors, a three-hole playoff was needed to determine the winner between two teams at 12-under-par 204. The pair from Savannah, Frank Costanzo and Thomas Rood (67-66-71), outlasted Jim Kamis of Marietta and Spencer Sappington of Milton (69-67-68) to take the Super Senior title.
The Super Senior flight competed at Savannah Quarters Country Club at 6,118 yards and a par of 72.
