Three-shot comeback for Frank Plata at New York Senior Amateur
CLAYVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 18, 2014) — Frank Plata (left), down by three shots heading into the final round of the New York State Senior Amateur, shot 69 on Thursday to win by one shot over second-round leader Tom Mueller.
Mueller, having shot 77-70 in the first two rounds, entered Thursday with a three-stroke advantage. But his 73, coupled with Plata's tournament-low round of 69, allowed for a comeback win for Plata.
In the Super Senior division, Randy Young (right) went wire-to-wire, shooting 76-73-78 to win by three shots over Dale Dirk. Dirk, shooting 78-75-77, finished in second place six shots ahead of third place.
