FRANKLIN, Ind. (July 22, 2014) -- Carmel's Jake Brown one was of three players to post 68 today at The Legends GC during the qualifying round of the IGA Match Play Championship. Brown's 4-under-par finish gave him the number two seed heading to the match play portion of competition.
"I hit 17 greens today and played really solid," said Brown, an incoming freshman at Indiana University. "I feel good about the position I am in, but seeding isn't that important. Anyone who makes the top 32 is capable of playing really well."
Brown will battle the 31st seed, Austin Winings of Brownsburg, Ind., during tomorrow's first round of match play.
Fishers' Tyler Davis and Zach Gurtner of Bremen, Ind. also fired 68s to grab the third and fourth seeds heading to match play.
"I just started off really hot today making five birdies in my first six holes," Davis said. "I hope to play as loose as I did today and continue to make birdies."
Davis will take on Patrick Kundenreich of Yorktown, Ind. and Gurtner will face Nobleville's Mike Walls during round one of match play.
Defending Champion Brodie Williams of Lapel, Ind. automatically claimed the number one seed due to his victory last year. Williams will face Zach Schroeder of Lebanon, Ind. tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.
"I just want to go out there and make some noise," Williams said. "I have no goals and no expectations. I just hope to do the little things right and create momentum. If I do that, things will fall into place. I'm looking forward to getting back to playing competitively."
