GLADWYNE, Pa. (Aug 10, 2012) -- Severe weather rendered Philadelphia Country Club unplayable and prompted Golf Association of Philadelphia officials to cancel Round 2 of the 110th Joseph H. Patterson Cup, presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance, Friday. As a result, Brandon Matthews of Fox Hill Country Club, the tournament's 18-hole leader at 6 under, was declared the victor.

"It's awesome," Matthews, 18, of Dupont, Pa., said. "Obviously, it would've been great to play today. I feel bad for the other players. It's a little bit unfair, but like I said I'll take what I can get. It's nothing for me to frown about."

Matthews' outstanding effort in the opening round also propelled the 2011 GAP Junior Boys' champion and Chris Roselle prodigy up the Silver Cross Award Standings. He edged White Manor Country Club's Brian Colbert by a stroke. The Silver Cross Award is given to the player with the lowest aggregate score in the qualifying rounds of the Amateur Championship and Patterson Cup.

"I couldn't be happier right now," Matthews said. "I'm thrilled with the way I played yesterday and everything that I just accomplished."
