It was a seesaw on the first nine holes of the match with both players carding two birdies and two bogeys. They were all square after nine, but with a birdie at 12 Wong took the lead and never relinquished it. With a string of birdies at 16, 17 and 18 Wong was now 4-up after the first 18 holes.

But as the match continued Wong gave two back with bogeys at 1 and 3. Sarathy made bogey at number 4 and the two halved hole 5 both making birdie. Wong was now 3-up. But another bogey by Sarathy at the 7th and a birdie by Wong at the 9th now gives Wong a 5-up lead after 27 holes.

Sarathy bogeyed 10 and then Wong sealed the deal at 12 with another birdie and a 7 & 6 win.

With her twin sister, Andrea on her bag the last few days, she felt very comfortable.

“Andrea put me at ease, it was sense of support. She’s good at reading greens and especially whether its uphill or downhill.”

Wong considers this win her best so far. She knows the history of the event and commented,

“I know I’m in good company with players like Emily Childs and others who have gone on to have successful college careers.”

Previously she won the AJGA Aspen Junior Classic in 2011 and had a top 20 at Junior World. As she is a member at Lake Merced Golf Club, host course to this year’s U.S. Girls’ Junior, she has aspirations to qualify for the prestigious championship taking place in mid July. She will also attempt to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Amateur which will be held in Ohio at The Country Club.

Currently a senior at St. Ignatius High, Wong will be heading to Princeton to play on the women’s golf team in the fall, majoring in political science and international affairs.

Sarathy, a sophomore at Gunn High in San Jose, plays on the boy’s golf team because there isn’t a girl’s team. This was her first time playing in the City. Her goal was to make the championship flight. She accomplished that and then some making it to the finals on her first attempt. Sarathy has been playing golf since age 4, seriously since age 10. She has won 6 JGANC events and will attempt to qualify for the U.S. Girls’ Junior.
