SF City Senior: Upsets mark first match play round

Many past champions exit early from the first round of match play at Harding Park

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2012) -- The first round of match play finished up today in the senior division of the San Francisco City. Mark Miller, the defending champion and No.1 seed was upset by No. 32 seed, Tony Wilmer of San Mateo losing 1-down. Wilmer was one of nine players who just made the cut shooting 79.

Herb Jensen of Carmichael, the 2010 champion and 31st seed, took out Dan Beiber of Alamo, the low qualifier yesterday, 2 & 1.

No. 3 seed Ken Noonan of Pleasanton also took an early exit as no. 30 seed Gene Van Puymbroeck of Mt. View won that match 3 & 1.

Gary Vanier, the 2009 champion from Pleasant Hill, defeated no. 5 seed Bill Bates of Somerset, 2 & 1.

The matches at Harding Park will continue with the round of 16 played next Wednesday, Feb. 29.
