International Four-Ball to add chapter to storied history
PALM CITY, Fla. (Feb. 15, 2012) -- The Fox Club is honored to host the International Four-Ball, one of the most prestigious amateur events in the Nation. The 55 year old Championship is comprised of a Mid-Amateur and Senior division. Both divisions compete in a Four-Ball Stroke Play format which is contested over 3 days and 54 holes.
The tournament boasts a storied past with famous champions such as Jack Nicklaus, Bruce Fleisher, and Tommy Armour III, Vinnie Giles and Buddy Marucci. The Fox Club is one of South Florida’s best-kept secrets. Located in Palm City, Fla., just minutes north of West Palm Beach, the layout brings a Carolinas feel to the Sunshine State.
Managing Partner Eoghan O’Connell and British Open champion Darren Clarke recently redesigned the original layout, adding Paspalum tee boxes and an additional 600 yards. The renovation, along with the Donald Ross-like elevated greens, pine tree-lined fairways and deep bunkers, gives The Fox Club a layout unique to the area. Beyond the uniqueness of The Fox Club’s layout, the daily operation and rules of the club are equally distinct.
The Club was created for serious golfers, and consequently has no tennis courts or swimming pools. Members of The Fox Club have won club championships worldwide, including championships at renowned clubs such as Pine Valley G.C., Winged Foot G.C., Robert Trent Jones G.C., Ballybunion G.C. (Ireland), and Caves Valley G.C., among many others.
