FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (Feb. 13, 2012) -- Titleist Brand Ambassador Rafael Cabrera-Bello concluded
his weekend ballstriking clinic by raising the trophy Sunday at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
Trusting a Pro V1x golf ball and a bag full of Titleist equipment, including new MB (712) Series
irons and Vokey Design SM4 wedges, Cabrera-Bello closed with a 4-under 68 at the Emirates
GC to lead a 1-2-3-4 finish for Titleist golf ball players.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling and it’s been a really spectacular week for me,” said Cabrera-
Bello, 27, who rolled his Pro V1x in from 9 feet for a crucial birdie on the par-4 17th.
He finished the four days at 18-under 270, one shot clear of Pro V1x loyalists Lee Westwood
and Stephen Gallacher. Marcel Siem (Pro V1x) finished solo-fourth, three back of Cabrero-
Bello.
A total of 82 players relied on Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls for their success, more than
four times the nearest competitor with 19 and more than all competitors combined.
“With so many big, big names I felt really proud of myself," said Cabrera-Bello, one of three
Titleist golf ball players to find the winner's circle last weekend across the worldwide
professional tours.
"I wanted to fight, I stayed calm, I did everything that I’ve read we should do in these type of
situations."
The result: Cabrera-Bello led the field in Greens in Regulation at 87.4 percent (T-1), making
just three bogeys over the 72 holes. His opening-round 9-under 63, featuring a back-nine 30
and nine birdies in 11 holes, was the best round of the tournament.
With the victory, Cabrera-Bello moved to No. 60 in the Official World Golf Ranking and earned
invitations into three of the year's biggest events: WGC-Accenture Match Play, WGC-HSBC
Champions and WGC event at Firestone.
• CHAMPIONS TOUR: Pro V1 loyalist Corey Pavin broke through to win his first Champions Tour
title Sunday at the Allianz Championship and lead a 1-2-3-4 finish for Titleist golf ball players.
Pavin rolled his Pro V1 golf ball in from 12 feet for birdie to edge Peter Senior (Pro V1) on the
first hole of a sudden-death playoff. Both players closed out regulation at The Old Course at
Broken Sound (Boca Raton, Fla.) with 1-under 71s for an 11-under 205 total at the
Bernhard Langer (Pro V1) and Michael Allen (Pro V1x) tied for third, one shot back.
Fifty-seven players in the field played Titleist golf balls, more than four times the nearest
competitor with 12 and more than all other golf balls combined. Titleist was also first in iron sets
(40); and sand, lob and approach wedges (128).
Highlight of the day? Pavin's left-handed chip on the par-3 14th hole, the result of an
unfortunately-placed tree root.
"That was a once-in-a-lifetime shot," said Pavin, who pitched his Pro V1 to 5 feet and saved par.
"I can't think of a better up-and-down I've had in my career. It's not like I practice turning 8-
irons over and hit them left-handed. When that happens, you think you're going to win, but I
had to get that thought out of my head."
• ASIAN TOUR: Mardan Mamat (Pro V1x) completed a wire-to-wire victory at the Philippine
Open to earn his third-career Asian Tour title.
Mamat remained steady to the finish, closing with a 1-under 71 for an 8-under 280 total at
Wack Wack Country Club's East course.
He was the only player to post four under-par rounds for the week.
“It feels great. It’s always good to win a tournament, especially the oldest national Open in
Asia," he said.
"I didn’t (make) any stupid mistakes and kept my ball in play all the time. The whole week (I
was) very patient and hit the ball good."
• PGA TOUR: At the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, 106 players trusted Titleist golf balls
for their success, more than six times the nearest competitor with 16 and more than all other
golf balls combined, including runner-up Charlie Wi (Pro V1).
Titleist was also No. 1 in iron sets (38); sand, lob and approach wedges (129); and putters (57).
• LPGA: Titleist golf ball loyalists Stacy Lewis (Pro V1x), Brittany Lincicome (Pro V1x), Julieta
Granada (Pro V1), So Yeon Ryu (Pro V1) and Hee Kyung Seo (Pro V1x) all competed in the six-
way playoff at the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open.
In total, 99 players teed up Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls in Australia, more than seven times
the nearest competitor with 14 and more than all other golf balls combined.
