Florida Club Team Championship: Vero Beach goes wire-to-wire

VERO BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 13, 2011) -- Vero Beach Country Club went wire-to-wire to claim the Regular Division title in the Club Team Championship at the Grand Harbor Golf & Beach Club in Vero Beach, November 12-13. Jupiter Hills Club prevailed in a playoff to capture the Senior Division title.

Grabbing 110 Stableford points in the first round, Vero Beach Country Club would take a two point lead heading into the final round. The team of Ryan Cobb, Matthew Avril, Scott Tolliver, and Steve Owen, posted a total of 117 points in the final round for a tournament total of 227 to capture the title by three points. This is the first time Vero Beach Country Club has captured the Club Team Championship. The team of Matthew Anderson, Brian Keenan, Tom Hagan and Kyle Thomas from Avila Golf & Country Club finished alone in second place after posting 103 points in the first round and 121 in the final round for a team total of 224 points.

In the Senior Division, Jupiter Hills Club captured the championship in a sudden death playoff. The team consisting of Tom Davis, Van Lefferdink, Steve Earsley, and Donald Brooks, posted 113 points in the first round and followed that with 111 points in the final round to be tied with Avila Golf & Country Club. The team consisted of Tom Johnson, Doug LaCrosse, Stuart Sierra and Jim Miller, who posted back-to-back rounds of 112 points. The playoff would go two holes where Jupiter Hills Club would prevail with three team birdies to capture the title. The two time Defending Champions from Buckhorn Springs Golf & Country Club finished alone in fourth place with a team total of 209 points.

A tradition since 1941, the Club Team is open to traditional golf clubs that own their own course and are members of the FSGA.

The four team members must each be members of the club. Each team member plays 36 holes of individual stroke play using stableford scoring. Total of best 3 point totals of 4 count as the team score each day, and the highest team point total for 36 holes is crowned the champion.
