Welcome to the best week of the year if you’re
a golf fan. The
world’s best players are gearing up for the
most iconic major
championship in the game, on golf’s most
sacred grounds no less.
It’s easy to start waxing poetic about the
legendary tournament
and venue, but on a week like this it comes
with the territory.
We can barely contain our excitement, and to
top it all off we have
a deep list of Callaway staffers who have their
eyes set on a certain
colored jacket come Sunday evening. Our boys
are playing well, our
equipment is winning on Tour, and we’re ready
to push it even
further with a win this week.
It’s tough to single out any one player, what
with Patrick Reed’s
two wins this year, Harris English playing in his
home state and a
certain guy named Phil Mickelson who’s done
pretty well on this
track. That’s why we’re giving you 5 Callaway
staffers (and 1 icon)
to watch at the big one down in Georgia.
HENRIK STENSON
Club(s) that could make the difference: X2 Hot
Pro Driver
Sitting pretty at No. 3 in the world golf
rankings, the 1st year
Callaway Staff Pro is more than ready to slip
on the jacket and
capture his first career major title. He’s been
quietly striping the ball
well in his last few starts and with the way he
hits his driver and
controls his irons, he’ll be in position to post a
whole lot of birdies
this week, especially on the Par-5s.
PHIL MICKELSON
Club(s) that could make the difference: Mack
Daddy 2 Wedges, X2
Hot Deep Fairway Wood
In case you need a reminder, Phil’s won this
major three times so
he’s got a pretty good feel for the course. He’s
also one of the best
wedge players ever and that will give him a
huge advantage at a
layout that features the most famous greens in
golf.
It’s not just about getting the ball on the
green, it’s about putting it
in the right place, utilizing the slopes. No one
does that better than
Lefty. His X2 Hot Deep Fairway Wood will also
help put him in great
position to go at some pins.
PATRICK REED
Club(s) that could make the difference: SR 3
Golf Ball, Odyssey
Metal-X Milled #6 Putter
A two-time winner already this year, Reed can
catch fire with the
best of them on Tour. He’s counted on clutch
putting to win in the
Desert and against a world-class field at Doral,
where he calmly
kept his composure as they tried to chase him
down.
He’s not afraid of the big moment, knows how
to control his golf
ball, and has the confidence to hit the right
shot. He’s got the game
and the mindset to make a move here.
JIM FURYK
Club(s) that could make the difference: Big
Bertha Driver
Fairways and greens. Fairways and greens.
Fairways and greens.
That’s how Jim Furyk plays, and his accuracy
off the tee will put him
in good position to post some great scores.
He’s a major winner, a
likely future hall-of-famer and he always seems
to be lurking in
these big events. No one grinds better than
Furyk, and it’s all but
certain that he’ll be in the mix this weekend.
HARRIS ENGLISH
Club(s) that could make the difference: X2 Hot
Pro Driver, Odyssey
Versa 2-Ball Putter
English is 4th on the FedExCup in his first year
with #TeamCallaway,
and he’s got all the tools to make a major
breakthrough. He has an
unflappable demeanor, hits the ball a mile, rolls
in birdies round after
round and generally does everything well. The
University of Georgia
alum would do well to win in his home state.
Be sure to keep an eye on Gary Woodland and
Chris Kirk, too
Bonus Player To Watch: Mr. Arnold
Palmer
You can’t talk about this tournament without
mentioning Arnold
Palmer, who once again will hit one of the
Opening Tee Shots this
year on Thursday morning. This year marks the
50th year since Mr.
Palmer won his 4th and final jacket, and we
were honored to sit
down with him recently for an exclusive
Callaway Talks series of
interviews.
“The King” kept us hanging on every word as
he shared some of his
favorite stories about the game, Ely Callaway
and our equipment.
We’re proud to release this series this week,
and you can see all of
our interviews with Mr. Palmer here.
Happy Major Week, everyone! For more on all
