San Francisco Senior: Former winners advance

Defending champ Jim Williams and former winners Gary Vainer and Herb Jensen moved on in match play

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Feb. 22, 2013) -- The first round of match play is complete at the 2013 San Francisco City Senior Championship. Defending champion and No. 1 seed Jim Williams was a 1-up winner over Jim Duncan and he'll face Michael Parnow, who prevailed 3-and-2 over Rick Dollarhide in the Round of 32. Herb Jensen, the No. 4 seed and 2010 event champion, knocked off David Schroeder, 4-and-3. Gary Vainer, who won in 2009 and earned the bracket's No. 2 seed thanks to a qualifying-round 71, defeated Tom Scarlett, 1-up. Another former champ, Jim Knoll, who won the event in 2008, fell in 20 holes to Mike Wiechers. Match play will resume Wednesday with Round of 16 matches kicking off three straight days of matches ahead of the March 10 finale at Hardine Park Golf Course.
