Player Profile: John Catlin

Catlin recently won the Monterey City Amateur to add to his growing list of impressive performances
There's no doubt the members of amateurgolf.com take their games seriously. With that said, it should go as no surprise that many members make headlines on the site throughout the tournament season.
One player who has been no stranger to headlines is John Catlin, who most recently grabbed attention with his win at the Monterey City Amateur Championship earlier this month.
It was Catlin's second title in as many months and the incoming senior at New Mexico took it by one shot over Brian Knoll, using opening rounds of 69 to distance himself from the field.
The Carmichael, Calif. native is no stranger to the winner's circle. In May, he won his second straight Memorial Amateur and defended his title at the Northern California Match Play Championship last year. He'll try for his third straight in August if the U.S. Amateur isn't in his immediate future. He is the first alternate from the Butte Creek qualifier after falling in a playoff following Monday's 36-hole qualifier.
He has also claimed victories at the Northern California Amateur (twice), and the Sacramento City Amateur.
All of his amateur success, of course, goes well with his solid play for the Lobos. This past season, Catlin earned All-American Honorable Mention honors thanks to his 12 Top-20 finishes in 14 events, including a win at the PING Arizona Intercollegiate in January. He was also named to the Mountain West All-Conference team.
Currently the No. 57 player in the Golfweek/amateurgolf.com U.S. Player Rankings and 146th in the World, Catlin is 12th in the race for 2012 California Player-of-the-Year.
