A wire-to-wire win and a third straight title from junior Preston Stout cement Oklahoma State’s dominance
No. 5 Oklahoma State left little doubt at Prairie Dunes, turning a steady week into a commanding, wire-to-wire victory at the Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship.
The Cowboys posted 10-under 1110 (279-267-275-289) to win by eight shots and successfully defend their title, adding a record 13th Big 12 crown and 58th conference championship overall. On a final day when conditions toughened, their closing 289 was enough to maintain separation.
No. 20 Arizona finished runner-up at 2-under 1118 (281-272-277-288), with No. 36 TCU just behind at 1-under 1119 (281-280-278-280). No. 6 Texas Tech (+9) and No. 38 Kansas (+10) rounded out the top five, with only the top three teams finishing under par for the week.
At the center of it all was Oklahoma State junior Preston Stout, who made history with his third consecutive Big 12 individual title. The Richardson, Texas native posted 11-under 269 (67-65-67-70) to win by three shots, becoming the first player in conference history to achieve the feat. His total stands as the second-best 72-hole score in championship history.
Stout’s final round was measured and composed, highlighted by timely birdies that kept challengers at bay. It capped a remarkable stretch that includes four wins in his last six starts.
BYU freshman Kihei Akina finished second at 8-under 272 (63-71-67-71), while Utah junior Sergio Jimenez placed third at 7-under 273 (73-70-63-67). Both players recorded rounds of 63 during the week, tying the championship single-round record.
Oklahoma State’s depth once again proved decisive. Junior Ethan Fang finished eighth at 1-under 279 (70-70-67-72), while junior Gaven Lane tied for 14th at 2-over 282 (72-64-72-74), giving the Cowboys three players inside the top 15.
The numbers backed it up. Oklahoma State led the field in par-3 scoring (3.15) and total birdies (73), while Stout co-led the field in par-3 scoring (2.94) and topped the individual birdie count with 22.
