A record-breaking final round and a clutch closing putt from Nichakorn Pinprayoon deliver a breakthrough win in Dallas
Iowa State didn’t just win its first Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship—it chased it down.
Trailing by six shots entering the final round, the No. 25 Cyclones produced a surge that flipped the tournament. They fired a 7-under 281—the lowest round of the week—to finish at 5-under 859 (293-285-281), the only under-par total in the 14-team field, and turned a deficit into a six-shot victory in Dallas.
No. 36 Houston finished second at 1-over 865, while No. 15 UCF placed third at 6-over 870, but neither could match Iowa State’s final-day charge.
At the center was sophomore Nichakorn Pinprayoon, who delivered when it mattered most. She closed with a 5-under 67 to reach 7-under 209 (71-71-67), sharing medalist honors with UCF sophomore Mila Jurine. Her week ended with a defining moment—a long putt from off the green on the 18th that dropped to cap the comeback.
The win, though, was built on depth. Iowa State placed all five players inside the top 20. Senior Pimkwan Chookaew climbed to T-8 at even-par 216 with a closing 69, while sophomore Alexandra Vidal (T-16, 219) added stability. Senior Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn and sophomore Isabella Yan tied for 19th at 4-over 220.
Across three days, the Cyclones made 49 birdies—more than any team in the field—but it was their timing that defined the week.
