Cobb started his final round standing T-6 and carded a tournament low 67 to win the title
Florida’s Tim Cobb produced a brilliant comeback win at the 43rd Dale Morey Championship, held at the Innisbrook Golf Resort in Copper Head, Palm Harbor, FL.
The 105th-ranked player on the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings shot rounds of 71-76-67 to finish at 1-over 214, edging Kevin VanderBerg of New York by a single stroke.
After sharing the opening-round lead with Michael Anderson, David Gablicki, the last year's runner-up, and Craig Hurlbert, Cobb slipped down the board following a second-round 76. But the St. Augustine native found his rhythm in the final round, firing the tournament’s lowest score — a 4-under 67 — to seal victory.
Starting from Hole No. 2 in a shotgun start, Cobb set the tone early with three birdies in his first 10 holes. A lone bogey on the 18th didn’t shake his composure, and he bounced back with a closing birdie to finish one clear of the field.
VanderBerg, who carded 72-73-70 (215), needed a birdie on the last hole to force a playoff but could only manage par. Anderson and Gablicki shared third at 3-over 216, while Hurlbert rounded off the top 10 after a final-round 78.
