Defending champion Kayun Mudadana of NSW sealed the victory without needing a playoff this time
Kayun Mudadana of New South Wales and Raegan Denton of South Australia claimed impressive victories at the South Australian Classic and Rene Erichsen Salver, respectively, at Royal Adelaide Golf Club.
For Mudadana, it marked back-to-back wins at the South Australian Classic. Last year, he needed a four-hole playoff to secure the title. This time, he made it look more comfortable, carding rounds of 68-71-66-69 to finish at 14-under and win by two shots over Lincoln Morgan of Queensland.
Ranked No. 92 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings, Mudadana entered the final round with a one-shot lead over England’s Jake Sowden. Starting from the 5th tee, Mudadana, Sowden, and Morgan remained tightly bunched through the back stretch.
After completing hole 18 (their 14th of the day), Mudadana maintained a two-shot lead over Morgan with four holes remaining. Sowden made a push with back-to-back birdies on the 1st and 2nd, while Morgan added a birdie of his own on the 2nd in a bid to narrow the gap.
However, Mudadana closed with authority, rolling in a birdie on the 4th—his final hole—to seal the win and successfully defend his title.
Mudadana has been in strong form throughout 2025. He’s played five ranked events so far, recording three top-10 finishes, including a T-5 at the Avondale Amateur in January. He also competed in the Vic Open, a professional event on the PGA Tour of Australasia, where he posted rounds of 67-72-73-75 to finish T-32.
In the women’s section, Raegan Denton put her home-course knowledge to good use, putting together rounds of 71-68-70-71 to win the Rene Erichsen Salver at 12-under-par. She finished five shots clear of joint runners-up Amelia Whinney, also of South Australia, and Emma Fleming of Ireland.
Denton has been consistent this year, having played four ranked events in 2025 with three other top-10 finishes leading into this week’s breakthrough victory.
