Blustery conditions make for tough scoring in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Arrow Aarav Shah (Australia) jumped up the leaderboard on moving day in Myrtle Beach with a 3-under, 69. He opened the front-nine with three birdies en route to a 33.  He’ll hold a three-shot lead heading into the final round.

It was another windy but sunny day TPC Myrtle Beach which featured a cut at the top 36 and ties for the boys and top 18 and ties for the girls field.

“I got a couple of lucky breaks on the front side and made an insanely long putt on three and chipped in on two,” said Aarav Shah. “I played very disciplined today and yesterday. If I can just carry on with that mindset, it should be good. I love this course and feel very confident out here.”

In second place Benjamin Baker is three back and will look to overtake Shah on Sunday.

Edan Cui, a frequent participant at AmateurGolf.com Tour stops, carded a +2, 74 and heads into the final round five behind Shah. Cui finished third at the Silicon Valley Amateur in California earlier this year.  Also five strokes back sit incoming tournament favorites Will Hartman and Tyler Watts.

Kayla Bryant (Boca Raton, FL) continues to lead the way despite an over par round of +1, 73.

“I was just going for the middle of the greens today, especially with how windy it was. I just had to really stay patient out there,” said Bryant. “It doesn’t really matter to me to be in the final pairing. We all have to play the same course but winning would mean a lot against such a strong field.”

She’ll be chased by Ann-Sophie Bourgault (Canada) just two behind. Amalie Zalsman (St. Petersburg, FL), Elizabeth Rudisill (Charlotte, NC) and local Madison Messimer, all sit T3, four back of Bryant.  Rudisill lost her lead today but hung tough despite a quadruple bogey at the par 3 fifth.

Spectators continue to come out in droves to follow incredible talent, including crowd favorite Charlie Woods. Woods missed the cut despite bouncing back in round two, after rounds of 82-77.  Kai Trump also missed the cut, with rounds of 84-77.

Round three begins tomorrow at 8:00AM ET off holes 1 & 10.  The leaders will tee off at 9:30 off #1. A grouping that will feature Aarow Aarav Shah, Benjamin Baker and Hampton Beebe.

Last year, Ethan Paschal and Vanessa Borovilos claimed victory in the boys’ and girls’ divisions, respectively. It was the first time in a few years that the current boys world #1 (JGS) did not win the trophy with past champions in Jackson Koivun (2023), Ben James (2022), and Nick Dunlap 2021. Both 2024 champions have since gone on to collegiate success—Paschal is now competing for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Borovilos has joined the Texas A&M golf team.
