Tommy Morrison wins Amer Ari Invitational in a playoff over Hampton Roberts

Morrison shot 21-under to win the individual competition, while Oklahoma State shot 64-under to secure the team title

Tommy Morrison of Texas defeated Hampton Roberts of North Carolina in a playoff to win the 2025 Amer Ari Invitational's individual competition at Mauna Lani Resort Golf Course, the North Course, in Kamuela, Hawaii.

Morrison shot rounds of 67-65 -63 to get to 21-under for the 54-hole tournament and force the playoff with Roberts, where he birdied the first hole to win it. Morrison's final round 9-under 63 featured ten birdies and one bogey, including a four-hole birdie streak from holes No. 4 to 7.

This is Morrison's first collegiate win. He is currently ranked No. 12 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings.

In the second round, Roberts recorded 12 birdies, tying the 18-hole UNC record for strokes and setting the UNC record for scoring to par at 11-under in the second round. He made ten birdies over his final 13 holes, including an 8-footer on the last hole to get to 16-under.

Ethan Fang of Oklahoma State and Carson Bacha of Auburn finished T3 at 18-under and three shots back of the playoff. Eric Doyle of Oregon finished in solo fifth place at 17-under to round out the top five.

In the team competition, Oklahoma State finished 64-under to win by five shots. The Cowboys carded rounds of 262-271-267.

According to Oklahoma State Athletics, the Cowboys' 21-under score propelled them to a program-record 64-under par total of 800. OSU's previous mark of 63-under 801 came at the 2005 Waikoloa Intercollegiate. The Cowboys opened the event with a program-best 24-under 262.

The victory was OSU's 10th all-time at the event and its second consecutive victory after closing the fall with a win at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. Under the direction of head coach Alan Bratton, the Cowboys have also won 43 team titles.

North Carolina, who won the 2024 event, finished in solo second place at 59-under with rounds of 268-267-270.

Texas finished in solo third place at 56-under, Auburn finished in solo fourth place at 53-under, and Oregon finished in solo fifth place at 48-under to round out the top five.

The low scores have been prevalent in this tournament, as Preston Stout of Oklahoma State shot a 10-under 62 in the first round this year and last year.

In just his second collegiate start at the 2024 Amer Ari, Arizona State freshman and 2022 US Junior Amateur champion Wenyi Ding shot a historic 27-under 189 with rounds of 63-64-62, becoming the first player to break 190 in collegiate competition. He beat the previously lowest-known score of 192, which several players, including fellow Sun Devil Jon Rahm, held.

Ding recorded a nine-stroke victory and was nearly 22 strokes better than the field average at Mauna Lani’s North Course.

North Carolina won the team title by five shots, and Arizona State finished in second place.

Past winners include Notah Begay, Anthony Kim, Tyler Leon, Cameron Tringale, Jonathan Moore, Nick Taylor, Jordan Niebrugge, CT Pan, Justin Suh, David Puig, Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra, Todd Demsey, Troy Matteson, Aaron Wise, and Matthew Wolff.
