Top 15 ranked amateur Omar Morales misses the cut at WWT Championship

The UCLA standout could not overcome a nine on the par-5 No. 14, while 18-year-old Dylan Brack finished 4-over
UCLA senior Omar Morales gave a great effort but ultimately fell three shots short of the cut at the World Wide Technology Championships at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico.
Morales shot a first-round 1-under 71 to put himself in position to make the cut, but a second-round 2-over 74 saw him fall to 1-over total and below the 2-under cutline.
Morales started on the back nine and was 2-under overall, entering the par-5 No. 14 when disaster struck. Morales made a nine on the hole after a penalty off the tee box and three shots in the native area. He shot 1-under through the rest of the 13 holes.
Morales earned a sponsor exemption as the highest-ranked Latin amateur in the world, currently No. 12 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. The UCLA senior is also fifth in the PGA TOUR University Ranking.
Morales has put together a great collegiate resume thus far and is ranked No. 15 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings.
18-year-old Dylan Brack made his PGA Tour debut this week after earning medalist honors at the Monday qualifier. Brack finished 4-over and six shots off the cut after carding two rounds of 2-over 74.
ROUND ONE RECAP
After one round at the World Wide Technology Championships at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico, UCLA senior Omar Morales is 1-under and T39. Morales carded three birdies, two bogeys, an eagle, and a double bogey in his round.
Morales was 1-over through 17 holes, but an eagle on the par-5 No. 18 saw him get into the red numbers.
According to DataGolf, the cutline has a 21 percent chance of being 2-under, a 40 percent chance of being 1-under, and a 27 percent chance of being even-par.
Morales is joined in the field by 18-year-old Dylan Brack, who is making his PGA Tour debut this week after earning medalist honors at the Monday qualifier. Brack is currently T81 after a first-round 2-over 74. Brack was 2-under through his first two holes, but a 40 on the back nine saw him fall to 2-over.

Morales earned a sponsor exemption as the highest-ranked Latin amateur in the world, currently No. 12 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. The UCLA senior is also fifth in the PGA TOUR University Ranking and will look to improve upon that this week.
Morales finished third at the Pac-12 Championships in the spring and advanced to the Round of 16 of the 2024 U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National Golf Club. His final collegiate season is off to a hot start, as he has carded four finishes inside the top 12.
Morales has played the Mexico Open at Vidanta twice in 2023 and 2024 and qualified for the 2023 and 2024 U.S. Opens. He has made four PGA Tour starts but has yet to make a cut.
Dylan Brack is a recent high school graduate who will make his PGA Tour debut at the WorldWide Technology Championship.
Brack shot 8-under 64 at Palmilla Golf Club to win the open qualifier by one shot.
Brack made headlines two years ago, winning the inaugural TGR JR Invitational in 2022. His connection to Tiger Woods does not end there, as Woods designed the course hosting the Tour event this week.

Brack medaled at his PGA Tour Q-School pre-qualifier and finished T56 in the first stage, failing to advance. He also qualified for this year’s U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine, where he finished T117 and did not advance to the match play portion.
He also made the Round of 32 at the Cal State Amateur.
Morales will tee off at 2:33 Eastern time with Raul Pereda and Santiago De La Fuente, while Brack will tee off at 10:09 Eastern time with Wilson Furr and Tom Whitney.
