In the individual competition, Zubair Firdaus led San Jose State to the win and also set an individual tournament record
San Jose State set a tournament record and won the 2024 Alister Mackenzie Collegiate Invitational at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
And they only won by one shot.
The Spartans shot 56-under, barely edging out Pacific University by one shot, who finished in solo second place at 55-under. They carded team rounds of 264-267-265.
The Spartans' team score of 796 and 56-under is a tournament record and the lowest three-round total team score in San Jose State program history. According to San Jose State Athletics, this is the Spartans' first team tournament win since the 2019-20 season when they won the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational.
San Diego finished in solo third place at 49-under, California finished in solo fourth place at 42-under, and Minnesota finished in solo fifth place at 38-under.
In the individual competition, Zubair Firdaus of San Jose State shot rounds of 66-63-61 to finish 23-under and win by five shots.
Firdaus shot a final round 10-under 61 to finish with a 54-hole total score of 23-under. Firdaus’ three-round total set a tournament record and secured him the individual championship.
Firdaus's final round of 10-under ties the lowest single-round score in San Jose State program history with Sean Yu, who shot a 61 at the same tournament in the 2019-20 season. Firdaus had a bogey-free third round of play, racking up eight birdies and one eagle.
Firdaus finished second amongst the field with 22 birdies across three rounds of play and also finished third amongst the field of players with two eagles. He is ranked No. 667 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings.
Baron Szeto of Cal Poly and Keshav Mungali of San Jose State finished T2 at 18-under, and Tim Jung of Pacific, Travis Robbie of Pacific, and Daniel Heo of California finished T4 at 16-under to round out the top five. J.P. Odland of Santa Clara finished in solo seventh place at 15-under.
