Fresh off a run to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Senior Am, the Canadian found Niagara Falls CC to his liking
After making a run to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Senior Amateur last week, Dave Bunker shot even par to win the Senior Porter Cup at Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, N.Y., by three shots
Bunker, who spends the warm months in Ridgeway, Ontario, and the winter months in Florida, carded rounds of 67-71-72 to finish as the lone golfer at even par or better. He shot a 2-over 72 in the final round with four birdies, two bogeys, and two double bogeys.
"I have myself quite a few bride looks and was able to convert most of them," Bunker said. I drove it pretty well and hit my irons good."
Bunker added," (The final round) was just more survival with the wind and rain."
The golfers dealt with stormy conditions in the final round, with a 45-minute rain and lightning delay.
Mark Strickland finished in solo second place at 3-over, and Adam Creighton finished in solo third place at 6-over. Brad Stumpf and Ken Ogden finished T4 at 7-over to round out the top five.
Strickland has put together an impressive 2024 campaign, winning the Golfweek Senior, Carlton Woods Senior, and Sunnehanna Senior Amateur just a week ago.
Bunker recently made a run to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Senior Amateur, losing 1-down to eventual runner-up Daniel Sullivan, and is currently ranked No. 31 in the AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings.
"It has been a continuation. I feel good, and I am hitting a lot of good shots and trying to stay out of trouble and big number," Bunker said.
In the Super Senior Division, Tom Sweigart made a birdie on the final hole to win by one shot. Sweigart and Greg Goode were tied standing on the par-3 No 18, and a close approach saw Sweigart bury the birdie to get to 10-over and secure the win.
Goode finished in solo second place at 11-over, and Randy Lewis finished in solo third place at 13-over. Bryan Rodgers finished in solo fourth place at 16-over, and John Gaffney and Jim Durr finished T5 at 17-over.
Goode is ranked No. 6 in the AmateurGolf.com Super Senior Rankings.
In the Legends Division, John Armstrong finished at 13-over and won by five shots. Armstrong carded rounds of 77-72-74 and recently finished T6 at the Sunnehanna Senior.
In the Super Legends Division, Donald Kuehn won by nine shots after finishing 12-over.
According to a recent Golfweek article, Kuehn has shot his age over 500 times. The 77-year-old did it three more times this week, with rounds of 74-75-73.
Earlier this year, Chase Nevins won the 2024 Porter Cup, and Kendall Todd won the 2024 Women's Porter Cup.
