While the Cardinals secured the team win, Filip Jakubcik of Arizona held off the field to win the individual title

An under-par team round and a big day from Michael Thorbjornsen helped lead the Cardinals to the team win at the 77th Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Stanford shot rounds of 354-355-349 to win the team competition. Its 1-under 849 final round was one of only two final rounds under par, joining California, which shot a 6-under 844.

Washington finished five shots back of Stanford in solo second place at 13-over, and California used its stellar final round to leap into solo third place at 14-over. Oregon finished in solo fourth place at 14-over, and first-round leader Arizona finished in solo fifth place at 15-over.

This is the first team title of the season for Stanford, giving them strong momentum heading into the postseason.

In the individual competition, Filip Jakubcik of Arizona held off Thorbjornsen and Justin Hastings of San Diego State to convert on his 36-hole lead and secure the win. Jakubcik shot rounds of 68-68-70, and his final round, even par 70, was good enough to hang on for the win.

Thorbjornsen and Hastings finished T2 at 3-under. Thorbjornsen is ranked No. 2 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings.

Tommy Morrison of Texas, Sampson Zheng of California, Karl Vilips of Stanford, and Chanachon Chokprajakchat of San Diego State all finished T4 at 2-under.

Pasatiempo, designed by Alister Mackenzie, has long been a member of Golf Digest's Top 100 courses list. Mackenzie also designed the famed Cypress Point and Augusta National Golf Clubs. On October 5, 2010, it was the host course of the 2010 Stocker Cup Qualifier.

San Jose State University hosts a 54-hole men's college tournament. The Western is one of the most highly recognized national collegiate tournaments. It has been conducted since 1946 by Pasatiempo Golf Club, a historic venue where a player’s talent is always well-tested. Pasatiempo perennially ranks among the best by all major golf publications.

The format is slightly different from most college events. Six-player teams determine the team score by taking the best five scores each round.
