El Macero Classic : St. Mary’s dominates to win by seven shots

St. Mary’s men’s golf team, the Gaels, finished 15-over 879 with rounds of 307-286-286, securing the team championship at the El Macero Classic in Davis, Calif.

The Gaels won by seven strokes to earn their first title of the season.

Grand Canyon and San Diego each shot a total score of 22-over,, resulting in a joint-runner-up finish at the tournament. Grand Canyon carded rounds of 294-302-290, while San Diego posted scores of 298-300-288, resulting in matching total scores.

In the individual competition, Enrique Dimayuga, a senior at Nevada from London, England, carded rounds of 75-70-64, securing his second consecutive individual medalist honors at 8-under following his triumph at the Gaucho Invitational last week.

Dimayuga was named the Mountain West Golfer of the Week last week for his impressive performance at the Gaucho Invitational. There, he led his Nevada men’s golf team to their first team title since Fall 2021. He is currently ranked No. 1136 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings

His immaculate final-round performance matched the third-best single-round score in Nevada Men's Golf history, and the senior became just one of four Wolf Pack golfers all-time to win multiple titles in a single season and the first to win back-to-back championships.

Tommaso Zorzetto, a senior at Grand Canyon, carded rounds of 71-73-68 to register a runner-up finish at 4-under par.

The winners, St. Mary’s College, saw three of its players finish inside the top 20. Freshman Jack Jerge carded rounds of 77-68-68 to secure a third-place finish at 3-under, followed by Junior Kristian Bressum, who carded 79-71-69 for an eighth-place finish at 3-over. Junior Connor Reis carded rounds of 75-72-75 for a T16 finish at 6-over par.
