U.S. Women's Open: TV, tee times, and the 24 ams in the field

Major championship golf in December! The world's best pros and amateurs meet at Champions Golf Club in Houston

If there are any silver linings in 2020 amid the pandemic, one is that major golf events are being sprinkled into parts of the year when golf usually goes dormant.

One month after a November Masters, the USGA hosts the U.S. Women's Open this week at Champions Golf Club in Houston. The club hosted the 1967 Ryder Cup and 1969 U.S. Open, and has hosted many top amateur championships including the 1994 U.S. Amateur and the annual Champions Cup Invitational.

24 amateurs, including the last two U.S. Women's Amateur champions, Rose Zhang and Gabriela Ruffels, will tee it up alongside the pros this week. Because of limited daylight this time of year, the USGA will for the first time utilize a second course (the Jackrabbit) for the first two rounds of stroke play before making the 36-hole cut.
