The 2020-21 Oklahoma Sooners (OU Athletics)

Picking up right where they left off, the Oklahoma Sooners who were the No. 1 team in the nation when COVID-19 brought an abrupt end to the 2019-20 season. With unfinished business ahead of them, the Sooners got their season off on the right foot at Colonial Country Club in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Holding a four stroke lead over bitter rival Texas, Oklahoma edged out the Longhorns with a final round 278 (-2) to take the Big 12 Preview title by eight with an 835 (-5) total. The win marks the 25th program victory under the helm of head coach Ryan Hybl who is in his 12th season manning the ship.

Taking the team title, Sooners junior Logan McAllister edged out teammate Quade Cummins and Texas’ Pierceson Coody for the individual title.

"To get another win is huge for my confidence," McAllister told Soonersports.com. "It's one thing to believe in yourself, which I do, but to be able to build off prior experiences is something that can help me in the future. This win gives me validation to know that I can win at this level. I'm thankful for all my teammates, who push me day in and day out to become the best player and person I can be."

Rounds of 72 and 69 set McAllister up for success on Tuesday as he closed the tournament out with a 4-under 66 for a two shot victory. Per Golfstat, McAllister was the sixth man for the Sooners on their trip down I-35.

"Today was just awesome. I felt like I put a really good round of golf together with no silly mistakes," McAllister said. "At Colonial, it's all about keeping the ball in front of you and not giving any shots away, and I felt like I did that really well this week."

Cummins, currently ranked in the PGA Tour University top-15, grabbed his 25th top-10 of his illustrious career at Oklahoma.

All-American Jonathan Brightwell made his Sooner debut after transferring from UNC-Greensboro and notched a T-6 finish at 1-over 211.

Five of Hybl’s six players that made the trip carded top-25 finishes in what is one of the deepest conferences in college golf.

With the win, Oklahoma is slated as the No. 1 seed at the Big 12 Match Play Championship which will begin play Friday, October 2 at The Golf Club at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas.
