U.S. Amateur Four-Ball qualifying is complete at 52 sites around the country; see who made it to the Philadelphia Cricket Club

The 2020 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball is headed to Philadelphia. The sixth playing of this event will take place at the Philadelphia Cricket Club's Wissahickon and Militia Hill courses in late May.

Qualifying has been completed at 52 sites around the country. See who qualified below:

March 2

The final U.S. Four-Ball qualifier was held at Lantana (Texas) Golf Club, and scores were LOW. The medalists, Brett Pierce and Justin Fry, had 9 birdies and an eagle, and 10 under played off for the final two spots.

Former Tennessee Mid-Amateur champ Ryan Terry of Nashville traveled to Vegas with Blanton Farmer of Bradenton, Fla. and booked their place in the championship with a 7-under 65 at Mountain Falls Golf Club in Pahrump, Nev. Ryan Faust (Encinitas, Calif.) and Michael McLoughlin (Las Vegas, Nev.) won a playoff to take the other qualifying spot.

Luke Crapo and Kurt Owen of Utah came up big when it counted. The former Weber State teammates penciled in an eagle on the 18th hole to earn medalist honors in Wednesday’s 18-hole U.S. Amateur Four-Ball qualifier at par-71 Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach, Calif. with a score of 8-under 63.

Creighton Honeck, a Bee Cave, Texas native who was one half of the winning Trans-Miss Four-Ball team last month, punched his ticket to the ultimate four-ball event with a different partner. Honeck and fellow Bee Cave resident Joe Sanders used a 61 to secure the first of three spots out of Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.

Echikson remains on the competitive amateur circuit, having made match play at the 2018 U.S. Mid-Amateur and most recently won the North Carolina Mid-Amateur.

Among the two teams to advance out of the Cardinal by Pete Dye in Greensboro, N.C., was one made up of South Carolinians Kyle Bearden and Jordan Sease, winners of the Devlin over the summer. Sease is also the reigning South Carolina Mid-Amateur champion while set a tournament scoring record (15-under 198) in winning the 2018 event.

Two of the top players in St. Louis, Sam Migdal and Chad Niezing, teamed up for a 64 at Old Hickory Golf club in St. Louis that sends them on to the Cricket Club. Migdal is a past Missouri Amateur and Missouri Stroke Play champion and Niezing’s career highlights include the 2016 Missouri Mid-Am trophy.

Ty Gingerich, the Cincinnati freshman who earlier this month won the St. Augustine Amateur, combined with Fellow Cincy freshman Cole Harris for a 64 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind., that earned them the first of two U.S. Four-Ball qualifying spots.

Nick Cassini’s golf career has been start and stop. Cassini played on the University of Georgia NCAA Championship team in 1999 and is a former U.S. Walker Cupper. He did a short stint as a professional but has only recently begun getting back into the mid-amateur (and amateur) circuit. Cassini and partner West Streib have one more event guaranteed for their 2020 schedule after qualifying for the U.S. Four-Ball out of Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga.

Matt Gourgeot

Matt Gourgeot of Decatur, Ala., is a perennial contender in the Spirit of America tournament played annually in his hometown at Burningtree Country Club. He won the event in 2016. Sean Knapp, the defending Western Pennsylvania Senior Amateur champion, combined with Pittsburgh resident Rick Stimmel to co-medal with 64 at New Castle (Pa.) Country Club. The two will be close to home next spring when the tournament proper is played at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.

Ferrell is a frequent competitor on the West Virginia amateur circuit, and finished 10th in the 2018 state amateur. Reale, meanwhile, played collegiately for East Carolina. Nathaniel McCoy partnered with Ben Herrera to qualify out of Des Moines (Iowa) Golf and Country Club. McCoy, son of Iowa Golf Hall of Famer Mike McCoy, also qualified for the U.S. Amateur earlier this year. He works for the Iowa Golf Association as the manager of championships and course rating.

Billy Joe Tolliver

Seniors Jerry Slagle and Billy Joe Tolliver medaled at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss., with a round of 64. Slagle, who plays out of Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas, qualified for the 2018 U.S. Senior Open and finished third. He was also third in the 2019 British Senior Amateur. Tolliver is a former NFL football player who also has appeared in several celebrity golf tournaments. He is a four-time winner of the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe.

That score was good for medalist honors over Gray Albright and Brett Roberts, who had 63.

Galloway (N.J.) National Golf Club
Qualifiers: Kevin Grady (Ellicott City, Md.) & Andrew Sovero (Catonsville, Md.) 63; Peter Barron III (Mays Landing, N.J.) & Michael Brown (Maple Shade Township, N.J.) 64

It’s a nice bit of symmetry to qualify for a USGA championship at a former U.S. Open venue. That was the case for a pair of teams who advanced from Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash. The top three teams posted rounds of 64, but mid-amateurs Reid Hatley and Jacob Koppenberg were the odd men out after losing a playoff.

A pair of players on the University of Indiana roster combined to take one of the first available spots in next spring’s U.S. Amateur Four-Ball. Teammates Mitchell Davis, winner of the Northern Amateur, and Ethan Shepherd combined for a 65 at Four Bridges Country Club in Liberty Township, Ohio to tie for medalist honors. Shepherd is the older brother of Erica Shepherd, the Duke freshman who made up one half of the winning U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball team last May.
