The twenty amateurs in the field for the 118th U.S. Open include four exempt players and 16 open qualifiers

SOUTHAMPTON, NY (June 11, 2018) - Tee times for the 118th United States Open Championship have been released, with 20 amateurs set to tee it up alongside the pros at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. The number includes four players who earned their place in the field through exemption: the U.S. Amateur runner-up Doug Ghim (Arlington Heights, IL), the British Amateur champion Harry Ellis (England), the U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Matt Parziale (Brockton, MA) and the U.S. Junior champion Noah Goodwin (Corinth, TX). Parziale and Goodwin are the beneficiaries of the USGA's decision to grant exemptions for the U.S. Mid-Amateur and U.S. Junior champions for the first time ever this year. U.S. Amateur champion Doc Redman (Raleigh, NC) was exempt in to the field provided he remained an amateur, but decided to turn pro after the NCAA Championships and so is not in the field. Sixteen amateurs earned their place in the field through open qualifying (the original number was 19 but three have since turned pro).
