University of Utah sophomore Mitchell Schow holds off two of his teammates at the Sand Hollow Resort

ST. GEORGE, UT (January 3, 2018) - University of Utah sophomore Mitchell Schow (Ogden, UT) shot a 68, his second straight sub-70 round, to win the Sand Hollow Amateur at the Sand Hollow Resort in southwest Utah. The final round looked like a University of Utah team qualifier, as the Utes held the top five places on the leaderboard. Freshman Blake Tomlinson (Salt Lake City, UT) held the lead with a 6-under 66, one ahead of Schow, while freshman Tristan Mandur (Mill Bay, B.C., Canada) had a 68 and junior Nathan Wunderli (Sandy, UT) had a 69. Junior Kyler Dunkle (Larkspur, CO) rounded out the top five with a 2-under 70. If it were a college event, Utah would have had an 18-under 270 team score. Schow took control of the tournament early on Saturday, going four under over his first five holes, sparked by an eagle 3 on the par-five third hole. At the turn he had a three shot lead over Tomlinson, while the other Utes had fallen off of the pace. He slipped at the start of his back nine, making three bogeys to allow Tomlinson to get within two, but finished strong by making birdies on the final two holes to cap off a three-shot win at 9 under par 135. Tomlinson (72) was the runner-up at 6 under, while Wunderli (72) finished tied for third with Landon Anderson and Denny Job at 3-under 141. Mandur (75) finished tied 7th and Dunkle (74) finished 10th. Schow's win is the second of the season for the Utes. Three weeks ago, Mandur shot a final-round 62 to win the Coral Canyon Amateur, with Schow finishing third. In the Senior Division, Ron Davis defended his title with a three shot win over Dan Pickens. Davis started the day one behind the lead but had the low round of the tournament, a 2-under 70, to pull ahead.
