PALATKA, FL (March 12, 2017) -- In wire-to-wire fashion Doug Hanzel has won his third consecutive Florida Senior Azalea title. Hanzel closed with a 66 to follow up rounds of 66-69 to post a 54-hole 201 total that was good for a five shot win over Jack Hall.

The win this week for Hanzel was an impressive bounce back win after he lost the Jones Cup Senior Invitational in a three hole playoff earlier in the week. For Hanzel it was his second AmateurGolf.com Ranking title of the season after claiming the Golfweek Senior National Championship.

Hall finished second with scores of 70-67-69--206. Kevin Macy (73-70-68--211) and Edward Parnell (70-74-67--211) shared third while John Fritz (76-74-68--218) was fifth.

Super Senior Division

Rob Hess took the Super Senior lead on Saturday before hanging on to win by a shot. Hess posted a 215 score with rounds of 72-72-71.

Berger Warner (76-70-70--216) was a close second, Kim Schwencke (74-73-71--218) was third and Bill Zylstra (73-77-70--220); Bobby Lundquist (77-73-70--220) shared fourth.

ROUND TWO RECAP

Two-time defending champion Doug Hanzel shot a second round 69 and with a 135 total he remained atop the Florida Senior Azalea. Leading by two-strokes Hanzel did have his advantage cut in half after he led by four shots following a first round 66.

On Sunday at Palatka Golf Club Hanzel will be looking to rebound from a disappointing lose earlier in the week when he led after 36-holes before losing the Jones Cup Senior Invitational in a playoff.

Jack Hall will have the best chance to track down Hanzel in the final round. Hall is two shots behind in second place after days of 70-67 helped him post a 137 score.

Kevin Macy (73-70--143) is in third place, Edward Parnell (70-74--144) is in fourth and Walter Himmelsbaugh (72-73--145) is fifth.

Super Senior Division

In the Super Senior Division Rob Hess has moved in front. Hess with rounds of 72-72--144 is ahead of second place Tom Boettcher by one. So far Boettcher has combined rounds of 72-73--145.

James Castagna (72-74--146) and Berger Warner (76-70--146) are tied for third.

ROUND ONE RECAP

Just days after losing the Jones Cup Senior Invitational in a playoff two-time defending champion Doug Hanzel turned in a first round 66 at the Florida Senior Azalea to lead by four.

When the second round begins on Saturday at Palatka Golf Club Jack Hall and Edward Parnell will begin play in a tie for second place tie following 70's.

Mark Baxter is in fourth place after a 71 while four others are tied for fifth thanks to rounds of 72.
