No. 17 Texas Tech had a big weekend at the Amer Ari Invitational, Curtis Luck played well at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and more
(February 6, 2017) -- The first 2017 Major of Amateur Golf was held over the weekend and in runaway fashion Ole Miss sophomore Braden Thornberry captured the Jones Cup Invitational.
On the Big Island of Hawaii many of the best teams in college golf gathered for the Amer Ari Invitational and it was No. 17 Texas Tech earning the clean sweep. The Red Raiders took home the team title with a final round rally while junior Fredrik Nilehn claimed the individual championship.
At the Omega Dubai Desert Classic on the European Tour Curtis Luck and Rayhan Thomas both made the cut. Luck looked sharp especially in the second and third rounds as he continues to prepare for his quickly approaching Masters appearance.
One of the top amateurs in the world Scott Gregory of England took home the NSW Amateur in a championship match to remember. Like Luck, Gregory is also hoping to sharpen his game before he tees it up at Augusta National during the first week of April.
In the Women's NSW Amateur Somi Lee pulled off a memorable upset over Hye Jin Choi.
