Saturday's final round is shaping up to be a four player race with the top 4 players within two-strokes

ORMOND BEACH, FL (January 13, 2017) -- For the first time this week the lead at The Sally has switched hands. On Friday Florida sophomore Samantha Wagner held steady at 6-under with an even-par 72 but it was enough to give her a one-stroke lead prior to the final round at Oceanside Country Club. Wagner took over the lead in the third round from teammate, Gator senior Kelly Grassel who is now tied with 12-year-old Alexa Pano for second place at 5-under. Pano made history over the summer when she won the AJGA PDQ/Philadelphia Runner Junior and became one of the youngest players to win an AJGA event. 2016 SEC Player of the Year Maria Torres is in fourth place and at 4-under she is two-strokes back. The top-five is rounded out by a distant fifth place duo comprised of UCF freshman Anna Hack and UCF senior Ashley Holder. Both players are 1-over. ROUND TWO RECAP At the midway point of The Sally at Oceanside Country Club the Florida Gators are flexing their collective muscles. Of course this is an individual event but the top-three spots in the standings are owned by current members of the eighth-ranked Gators squad. Senior Kelly Grassel continues to lead the way and after two rounds she is 7-under-par. Grassel followed up her first round 4-under 68 with a 3-under 69 that put her one shot ahead of teammate Samantha Wagner. Wagner, a sophomore, was able to reach 6-under with the round of the tournament, a 5-under 67. As a freshman Wagner was a member of the SEC All-Freshman Team. Third place is owned by Gator senior Maria Torres. The reigning SEC Golfer of the Year is 4-under after days of 69-71. 12-year-old Alexa Pano is currently 2-under and in fourth place while UCF senior Ashley Holder is 1-under in fifth. ROUND ONE RECAP Round one is in the books at The Sally and Florida senior Kelly Grassel is the pace setter. Grassel was able to take the early lead thanks to a first round 4-under 68 at Oceanside Country Club and she will lead Florida classmate Maria Torres by one-stroke when play resumes on Thursday. After finishing tied for second at last weeks Harder Hall Wednesday's round was an extension of Grassel's strong play to begin 2017. Torres showed well on the first day at Oceanside Country Club with a 3-under 69 to slot into second place. In the spring Torres is poised to conclude a memorable career at Florida that has included being named to the SEC All-Freshman team and last year the SEC Golfer of the Year. UCF sophomore Nicolette Donovan started her week with a 2-under 70 that leaves her in third place while Ashley Holder (UCF), Kayla Jones (Florida State), Ludovica Farina (Maryland), Riley Rennell and Samantha Wagner (Florida) are tied for fourth at 1-under.
