UCF's Ashley Holder leads The Sally after going 5-under

The 90th edition of the South Atlantic Women's Amateur, known as The Sally, got underway today at the Oceanside Country Club in Ormand Beach, FL. Ashley Holder of Orlando, a junior at the University of Central Florida, jumped out to a first-round lead by posting a 5-under par round of 67.
Kaitlyn Papp, a junior golfer who plays for the Lake Travis (TX) Girls Golf Team, fired a 2-under 70 and stands alone in second place. Papp recently captured the American Junior Golf Association Girls Championship in September.
Alexa Pano (Lake Worth, FL), Lin Culver (Palm Coast, FL) and Taylor Tomlinson (Gainesville, FL) are tied for third with rounds of 1-under 71.
Defending champion Sierra Brooks carded a 2-over 73 and sits six shots behind Holder.

The Women’s South Atlantic Amateur Golf
Championship (The SALLY) is played the
second week of January each year, in Ormond
Beach, Florida. Oceanside Country Club has
been home to The SALLY since its beginnings
in 1926. The tournament field consists of top
amateurs in the US and the top finishers are
frequently represent the U.S. for the biennial
Curtis Cup team. You will find
many former SALLY players among the LPGA
elite.
72-hole stroke play championship with a
Championship Division (max handicap 6.0) and a
Rockefeller Division (max handicap 10.0) that plays
from shorter tees. There is also a Senior competition
for players aged 50 and over competing in the
Championship division.
Eligibility: A female from birth, that has
reached the age of 16. All entries are
accepted subject to Committee Approval.
