Sagoo Takes Home a Christmas Classic Win for the Holidays

St. Mary's College senior Pavan Sagoo wins the AmateurGolf.com Christmas Classic with a record-setting performance

MONTEREY, California (December 3, 2017) -- St. Mary's College senior Pavan Sagoo capped off his weekend at Del Monte Country Club with a win at the AmateurGolf.com Christmas Classic. For the collegiate standout, who is more than ready to finish his finals and return to his family in England for the academic break, this win is a perfect way to wrap up a fall golf season in which he finished in the top-20 at every collegiate event he has played.

Opening with a 7-under-par 65, the Sagoo managed to roll in another six birdies on Sunday en route to shooting 68. His tournament total of 133 was good enough to secure a 6-shot victory for the English born golfer. Sagoo's 11-under-par performance stands alone as the best finish at a Christmas Classic since AmateurGolf.com accepted operations of the tournament from tournament founder Casey Boyns in 2002.

After his graduation this spring, Sagoo will head overseas and set his sights on a Tour Card at the European Tour’s Qualifying School.

Lucas Carper, who was very much in the hunt after opening the event with a 66 on Saturday, played with Sagoo in the final round. Despite Carper’s best effort to keep pace with the St. Mary’s standout, a 73 from the high school junior wouldn’t be enough catch Sagoo on the windy December afternoon.

Rounding out final group was George McNeely, another up-and-coming high school standout. McNeely, who was playing locally as a resident of Carmel, came off the first tee with purpose, making three birdies in his first six holes. Unfortunately for McNeely, he would not be able to keep up his brilliant run, finishing with a 4-over-par 76 for to finish the event at even par.
