Pete McDade leads the Super Senior Dvision while Jerry Hutton is the Grand Master Division pace setter

PALM HARBOR, FL (October 30, 2017) - Following day one the Society of Seniors Championship hosted by Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club Allen Barber is the only player under-par and the leader by four. Barber, the 12th ranked player in the Senior AmateurGolf.com Player of the Year Rankings, opened with a 3-under 68. Following a par on No. 1 Barber got his round going with the first of his four birdies on the 2nd hole. Additional birdies on Nos. 4, 6 and 10 followed as Barber reached 4-under. He remained there until he dropped his only shot of the day on the 15th. So far this season Barber has seven top-10 finishes in senior ranking events but is still in search of his first win of the year. His best 2017 finish so far was a tied for third at the Canadian Senior Amateur. Stephan Maddalena is second at 1-over, fourth-ranked senior Keith Decker is third at 2-over while No. 5 Steve Hudson, Richard Kerper, Emile Vaughan and John Fritz are tied for fourth at 4-over. SUPER SENIOR DIVISION The lead in the Super Senior Division belongs to Pete McDade following his 1-over 73. McDade opened his two-stroke advantage with an impressive late round charge. 3-over after six holes McDade righted the ship playing the final 12 holes in 2-under, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 15th. Neil Spitalny and Pete Allen are sharing second at 3-over. GRAND MASTER DIVISION With an even-par 72 Jerry Hutton is ahead by one in the Grand Master Division. On Monday Hutton put together a four birdie, four bogey round. Mike Nixon is second at 1-over and in a tie for third it is George Washburn; Frank Guise at 3-over.

54 hole stroke play event that honors one of the founders of the SOS, Dale Morey, who won more than 250 events in a lifetime of golf. In 2021 the tournament switched to a single division. SOS annual meeting and banquet is held with this tournament.
