AUGUSTA, GA (July 14, 2017) - Jared O'Kelley of Canton posted a 3-under-par 68 in round two of the Georgia Amateur Championship to take a one stroke lead after 36 holes. The 96th edition of the state championship continues at West Lake Country Club, July 13-16.

O'Kelley's 7-under-par 135 (67-68) total is one better than a pair of players at 6-under-par 136. Jacob Bayer of Lawrenceville (69-67) and Tre Lamb of Macon (67-69) improved their respective spots on the leaderboard with impressive rounds of their own on Friday.

Will Chandler of Atlanta, who plays golf at the University of Georgia, added a 68 in round two to his 69 in round one for a 5-under-par 137. Two-time Georgia Amateur champion, David Noll, Jr., of Dalton, remains in contention for his third title alongside Chandler at 5-under-par 137. Noll won his state championships in 2003 at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw and 2011 at Cherokee Town and Country Club in Atlanta.



After 36 holes of play, 71 players made the cut at 6-over-par 148 and better.

The shot of the day went to Andrew Duffie of Evans, who on the 512-yard par 5 11th hole made an albatross with a 3-wood. Duffie finished the day at 10-over-par 152 (75-77). Athens native Kyle Stiles had a memorable day as he owns the low round of the Championship with his 7-under-par 64 on Friday. He's 3-under-par 139 (75-64) through 36 holes.

West Lake Country Club is playing to 6,816 yards and a par of 71.

Entries were open to male amateur golfers who are GSGA members and residents of the state of Georgia. The field of 144 players compete over 72 holes of individual stroke play with the field cut to the top 70 and ties now that 36 holes have been played.
