The East Course at Oak Hill Country Club (Rochester, NY) may get all of the accolades, having hosted the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, U.S. Amateur and the Ryder Cup. But the West Course proved it can test the best as well, yielding no score below 75 in the 78-for-4 qualifier. Adam Condello of Fairport, NY and Colin Dubnik of Rochester managed to advance by shooting 76.

The smallest of the qualifying fields was in Palmer, Alaska, with 12 players vying for one spot. Amateurs took the two alternate spots, but it was professional Horacio Leon from Chile via Jupiter, FL who beat the field by six. Why was Leon in Alaska, so far from home? Perhaps it was because he had just medaled at the Mackenzie (Canadian) Tour Qualifying at nearby(?) Courtenay, B.C., Canada.
