Hye-Jin Choi wins Queen Sirikit Cup in Playoff

Runner-up Liu Wenbo carded an ace and fired a 7-under 65 in the final round

ZHANGJIAGANG, China (May 12, 2017) - It took playoff but Hye-Jin Choi has won the Queen Sirikit Cup hosted by Shuangshan Golf Club. After finishing 7-under and tied with Liu Wenbo, Choi was able to outlast the native of China in a playoff to take the prestigious title. Choi, the top-ranked player in the Women's Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Rankings, rebounded from a first round 1-over 73 with rounds of 5-under 67 and 3-under 69. In the final round Choi, from Korea, had a mundane 1-over 37 front nine before rallying on the back nine. 3-under for the tournament with eight holes to play, Choi carded three straight birdies on Nos. 11-13 and then assured her spot in the playoff with a birdie on the final hole. Choi is currently in the midst of a spectacular 2017 season. In January she won the Australian Women's Amateur and in February she finished seventh at the Australian Women's Open. Runner-up Liu Wenbo reached 7-under with rounds of 73-71-65. The electric final round for Wenbo had a little bit of everything. Wenbo jump started her round with an ace on the par-3 2nd that helped lead to a 2-under 34 front nine. Still off the pace Wenbo went to work on the back nine as she carded five birdies, including one on the last for a second nine 5-under 31. Atthaya Thitikul was third at 5-under, So-mi Lee took fourth at 3-under while Du Mohan placed fifth at 2-under.
