Benjamin Nelson birdied the 17th hole and then held on following a bogey on the last to win the Old Waverly Invitational by a stroke

JACKSON, MS (April 9, 2017) - Benjamin Nelson birdied the 17th hole and then held on following a bogey on the last to win the Old Waverly Invitational by a stroke. Playing at Old Waverly Golf Club, Nelson started his weekend with an even-par 72 before earning the title with a Sunday 1-under 71 to finish as the only player under-par. During the final round Nelson battled his way to even-par 36 on the front nine with three birdies and three bogeys. On the back nine Nelson started strong with a 10th hole tweeter and then the ultimate winning bird on No. 17. Both Chip Getz and first round leader Joel Myrick tied for second place at even-par after they both had a chance to force a playoff. Getz reached 1-under for the tournament after 10-holes but two bogeys on Nos. 12 and 13 followed. A 15th hole birdie got Getz back to even-par, however he was unable to find another birdie the rest of the way. Myrick was 1-under after 17-holes only to bogey the final hole. In the Senior First Flight Barry Stafford won the title by a shot while in the Super Senior First flight the victory went to Charlie Pilkinton.
