LEAGUE CITY, TX (March 19, 2017) -- Broc Haymon claimed his first Texas Golf Association title with a victory in the 2017 Texas South Mid-Amateur presented by Impact Precision Golf. Haymon followed up a second round 9-under 63 with a 2- under par 70 to win by two strokes of runner-up John Hunter. Haymon claimed the second event of the TGA South Regional Series on the England- Scotland Courses at Magnolia Creek Golf Club.

Haymon, from Pearland, continued his hot play with four birdies in his first ten holes to move to 14- under par for the Championship. Two bogeys in his last four holes resulted in Haymon posting 12-under for three days.

“To sleep on a lead after shooting a career round was a first for me. I knew that I needed to just focus on my game and not to let anyone else’s play dictate mine. This proves to me that I can play with the top players and do well” said Haymon with a smile. “This is a validation to all my hard work and focus that I have put into my time in practice and competitive events.”

For the second straight year Houston’s John Hunter finished in second place after a final round 9- under 63. Hunter, who finished second last year at Eagle Pointe GC, put the pressure on in the penultimate group.

A bogey on the second hole was the only blemish on a round that included two eagles and six birdies. Hunter finished the South Mid-Amateur at 10-under par for three days.

In a tie for third place at 6-under par was Houston’s Trevor Sauntry and Randy Lance, of Spring. Both players finished their final rounds with six birdies and three bogeys. Lance claimed the Mid- Master recognition awarded to the low player in the field at least 40 years of age.

San Antonio’s Colby Harwell finished alone in fifth place and was the last player under par for the three days at 4-under par.
