In the Senior Division Doug Hopton-Jones came from three shots back to win by eight

PLANO, TX (February 11, 2017) -- On day two Bill Steen wasn't quite as sharp but he still did more than enough to win the Texas North Medalist series opener at The Courses at Watters Creek. Following his opening 4-under 68, Steen closed with a 2-over 74 to finish 2 under and two shots clear of runner-up Hagen Fell. In the final round Steen turn in a scorecard that included three birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey. His birdies were recorded on the 3rd, 4th and 15th holes. Mike Louden was third at 1 over, Jordan Woolf placed fourth at 2 over and the 3 over Beau Burgess rounded out the top five. In the Senior Division Doug Hopton-Jones came from three shots back to win by eight. Hopton-Jones combined rounds of 77-72 to tally a 5 over weekend scorecard. Jim Quinn was second and first round leader Roger Lee was third. ROUND ONE RECAP Day one of the Texas North Medalist series opener at The Courses at Watters Creek belonged to Bill Steen. As the only player under-par Steen will carry a five shot advantage into Sunday's final round. Steen, 4 under, did bogey twice during his round but both times he followed his blemish up with consecutive birdies. Overall Steen rolled in six birdies on Saturday. Two players will begin the round in second place at 1 over and they are Beau Burgess and Hagen Fell. In fourth place it is the 2 over Ted Waldrip while in fifth it is Mike Louden at 3 over. In the Senior Division the lead belongs to Roger Lee. At 2 over Lee paces Jim Quinn by two shots and Doug Jones-Hopton by one more.

36-hole stroke play competition as part of the TGA Medalist Series, conducted for low- handicap amateurs. To play in a TGA Medalist Series tournament, each player will be required to pay an annual registration fee.
