JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (November 20, 2016) -- Late heroics were the order of the day for Garrick Higgo at the Central Gauteng Amateur Open. First Higgo birded the 17th hole at Royal Johannesburg Golf Club to reach 9-under and then needing some more magic he eagled the closing hole to lift himself to 11-under and a one-stroke victory.

Higgo signed for a final round 5-under 67 the included just one bogey and three other birdies which came on the 5th, 11th and 14th holes.

Combrinck Smit was the runner-up with a 10-under total. Smit flew out of the gates with a 4-under 33 front nine but an even-par homeward nine wasn't enough. A birdie on No. 18 was to little to late.

Therion Nel was third at 8-under while Malcolm Mitchell and Marco Steyn shared fourth at 7-under.

Suspended second round leader ended up 5-under in a tie for seventh.
