USC earns top Gifford Collegiate seed, Rico Hoey medals

In the quarterfinals it will be #1 USC vs. #8 Wisconsin, #2 Stanford vs. #7 South Florida, #3 UCLA vs. #6 Washington, #4 Colorado vs. #5 Northwestern
Hoey took the top spot thanks to rounds of 65-67 that pushed him to 12-under and and two-strokes in front of teammate junior Jonah Texeira.
Through two rounds of play Hoey, a first team All- Pac 12 performer, has only bogeyed once while birdieing 13 times. The seniors most impressive stretch came during his second round when he rolled in four birdies in a row from Nos. 14-17.
Playing with a six-team line up, the entire USC roster completed play inside the top-20 and under-par. The aforementioned Texeira was 10-under, junior Sean Crocker and sophomore Justin Suh shared tenth at 5- under while freshman Cheng Jin and redshirt senior Andrew Levitt were 1-under in a tie for 18th.
On Wednesday play will switch to match play with the the quarterfinals and semifinals to be contested. The quarterfinals will begin at 7:30 a.m. PST with the semifinals to follow at approximately 1:30 p.m. PST.
