Trent Phillips claims Bobby Chapman Junior victory

SPARTANBURG, SC (September 18, 2016) -- With a final round bogey-free 7-under 64 Trent Phillips finished atop the Bobby Chapman Junior leaderboard. Phillips finished 9-under and two-strokes in front of high school teammate Jacob Bridgeman at The Country Club of Spartanburg.
Philips, the 2016 South Carolina Junior champion, began his final round surge with a birdie on the opening hole and then continued his move with birdies Nos. 5 and 9. 3-under for the day but still trailing, Phillips dug deep on the back side by carding a birdie on the 11th and then three straight to close out his day and tournament.
Runner-up Jacob Bridgeman got off to as fast start on the frontside with four birdies, all in the last five holes, before faltering with an even-par inward nine.
Avery Price finished 6-under in third while Harrison Corbin, Austin Fulton and Nicolas Cassidy were forth at 5-under.
A total of 17 players finished 1-under or better.

ABOUT THE Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational
54 hole stroke play event. The tournament is
held in honor of the late Robert H. Chapman,
Jr. Chapman, a long time member of the
Country Club of Spartanburg, was the only
man to serve as president of both the South
Carolina Golf Association & Carolinas Golf
Association. He was an accomplished player
and served the USGA in several capacities. In
his business life, Chapman was a local and
national leader in the textile industry. The
tournament also benefits the Spartanburg
Foundation and the South Carolina Junior Golf
Foundation.
