Florida Senior Preview: Gordon Marshall Looks to Defend

OCALA, FL (April 12, 2016)--The Top 144 senior amateur golfers in the state will congregate at Adena Golf & Country Club to compete in the 55th Florida Senior Amateur Championship on April 12-14. Reigning champ Gordon Marshall will attempt to become the first player since 1989 to defend his title.

This year, nearly 325 players entered the tournament in hopes to play in the 54-hole championship. Participants who made the final 144 player field will play 36 holes at the stunning Adena Golf & Country Club in Ocala before a cut to the low 60 players and ties. The final 18 holes of the Championship will be played on Thursday, April 14th.

To be eligible, players must reach their 55th birthday on or before the first round of the championship (April 12th), be an amateur golfer and also a member of the Florida State Golf Association.

Adena Golf & Country Club was designed a few years ago by owner, Frank Stronach, on the northeast side of Ocala. Using an old rock quarry, the course is full of magnificent views and challenging holes, including the par 5 14th measuring over 700 yards. Adena is quickly becoming known for their perfect course conditions and amazing quarry holes. Players around the state are already raving about this wonderful new club.

8 Former Senior Amateur Champions– Jim Carley, Steve Earsley, AJ Kroeger, Doug LaCrosse, Gordon Marshall, Pete Williams, Rick Woulfe, and Bill Zylstra

4 Former Senior Players of the Year– Steve Earlsey, Doug LaCrosse, Pete Williams, and Rick Woulfe (8 time)

4 Former Senior Match Play Champions– Pete Andrews, Doug LaCrosse, Pete Williams, and Rick Woulfe

1 Former Florida Senior Open Champion– Pete Williams (Only Amateur to win the event in 39 years)

2 Former Florida Amateur Champions– Buddy Alexander and Doug LaCrosse

ABOUT THE Florida Senior Amateur

The Senior Championship is for those individuals over the age of 55. 54 holes of stroke play, with a cut to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes. Must be an FSGA member.
