Nick Beale held off Eddie Brescher III in a playoff to win the 2014 Mississippi State Amateur title

Choctaw, MS - It came down to the last hole, Pass Christian's Nick Beale had a one shot lead over Hattiesburg's Eddie Brescher III standing on the 18th tee box. With Beale missing a short putt on the 18th green, Brescher had a five foot putt, to send the 99th State Amateur Championship into a playoff. Without hesitation Brescher stepped up to the putt and did just that, both players finished the tournament at 7 under par. The playoff started on hole number one and both players hit great drives. The cross-handed, Beale was the first to play and hit the shot of the tournament, by almost holing it from 180 yards. Brescher also found the green, but had a tricky thirty footer for his birdie. After Brescher missed his putt, Beale tapped his in for birdie. The first playoff hole was all he needed to be crowned the 99th Mississippi State Amateur Champion. We want to say congratulation to both players on their outstanding play throughout the week, here at Dancing Rabbit. Coming in third place was Olive Branch's Braden Thornberry, who shot a final round 74 and finishd the tournament at 4 under par. In fourth place was Connor Davis, also from Olive Branch, who shot a final round 69 to finish at 3 under for the tournament. Rounding out our top five was our four time champion Clay Homan. Homans final round of 73 put him at 2 under for the four days. We would also like to say thank you to Mark Powell and all of the staff here at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club for an outstanding tournament. The course was in great shape, and we would not have been able to do this without you. We look forward to many more events at Dancing Rabbit. Don't forget that next year marks the 100th anniversary of the Mississippi State Amateur, and that will be held at the Country Club of Jackson. We hope to see everyone there next year.
