In May, Homa won the Pac-12 individual title and was the low individual at the NCAA Championship

BIRMINGHAM, AL (June 3, 2013) -- University of California golfer Max Homa has been named the Southern Golf Association’s National Amateur of the Month for May. Aside from past U.S. Amateur champions, Homa became only the third golfer to become a unanimous selection by the blue-ribbon national panel in the 11-year history of the prestigious award.

  • October: Meghan Stasi, U.S. Women's Mid-Am | More
  • March: Patrick Rodgers, Stanford | More
  • April: Tianlang Guan, Masters | More
Homa nailed the honor by winning two prominent individual titles in May. He opened the month by closing out his stunning Pac-12 medalist title at Los Angeles CC North Course, where he posted an opening, course-record 61. His 9-under 271 total was five shots clear of a very elite field. At the end of the month, the senior from Valencia, CA, also was low individual in the stroke play portion of the NCAA D-1 National Championship at Capital City CC, Crabapple Course, outside Atlanta with a 9-under 201 total to upstage a couple of his more heralded teammates and many of the country’s other top collegiate stars.

The Am of the Month award is selected by a national, blue-ribbon panel of golf officials, coaches and journalists. This year’s previous winners of the March-thru-October award were Stanford’s Patrick Rodgers and Chinese teen Masters sensation Guan Tianlang. The honor is one of the ways the SGA promotes and advances amateur golf, including its storied Southern Amateur, the 107th playing scheduled for July at The Club at Carlton Woods outside Houston.
